Concept art can be a valuable resource for generating ideas and helping sculptors to visualise how a miniature should look. At Dragon’s Forge, we don’t commission concept art for every miniature and customisable kit in our range, but when we do the results tend to be pretty spectacular.
Today we’re sharing the work of three fantastic artists with you. These sketches are glorious works of art in their own right, but they’ll also give you a flavour of what’s to come from the miniature design studio in the weeks and months ahead. Let’s dive in!
Pirates – David Gallagher
David Gallagher is an artist who needs no introduction but, just in case, we’ll give him one anyway! David has been one of the most prominent and recognisable fantasy artists working in the field of games and miniatures for the past few decades. His work appears throughout Games Workshop’s game books and in a wide variety of other places, and we’re privileged to have him working with us across our developing range.
Most notably, David has worked on some especially inspiring designs for Von Keelhaul’s Pirates, which will be featuring in the first month of our Patreon subscription service. He also created the original concepts for Thrax Forgemaster himself, as well as his quirky minions.
Thieves – Rick Magto
Working in a very different style to David, Rick has been creating concept art for a number of our miniatures and customisable kits, including the Thieves of the Arachnus Cowl. While in many cases our miniature designers and sculptors will mix and match different elements of a concept, in this case you can really see how Rick’s concepts have carried through almost unaltered to the final miniatures.
Warrior Bards – Dattan Monteiro Porto
Dattan’s fantastically characterful work on these warrior bards is so recent that the miniatures are still being sculpted, so you’re getting a real scoop here! How and where the miniatures based on Dattan’s mesmerising artwork will appear are yet to be revealed, but we can’t wait to show you the results.
These sketches represent the work of just three of the many talented concept artists that are helping us bring a truly original flavour to the Dragon’s Forge range. With the launch of our online store and Patreon subscription coming soon, you won’t have to wait much longer to hold the fruits of their imagination in your hands.
